SEB configurations

SEB configuration templates define how the Safe Exam Browser behaves during an exam. Each configuration is linked to an institute and reused across exams.

Settings groups

  • Security & passwords: Send Browser Exam Key, Allow Quit, quit password
  • Browser window: view mode, toolbar, dimensions
  • Browser features: navigation, find, print, JS/Java/plug-ins, screen sharing, virtual machine detection
  • URL filtering: enable filter, allow/block rules
  • Process monitoring: permitted and prohibited processes
  • Downloads & uploads: allow/block, download directories
  • Keyboard & system: exit keys, inside-SEB controls, kiosk mode

Reusable sets

Applications that students may run during an exam. Only processes in this set can start while SEB is active.

Add each application by name or executable identifier. If the set is empty, no additional applications may run during the exam.

Using a configuration

  1. Create the reusable sets (permitted / prohibited / URL filter) as needed
  2. Create a SEB configuration and attach the sets in the relevant group
  3. Attach the configuration to the exam(s)
One template, many exams

Because configurations are reusable, maintain a small number of templates (e.g. per browser type) and reuse them across exams instead of rebuilding per exam.
