SES exams

SES exams are taken inside the built-in SES platform. Each exam belongs to an institute and is linked to an SES environment and a SEB configuration.

Creating an exam

  1. Go to Administration → SES exams → Add
  2. Fill in:
    • Exam name: display name
    • EMS environment: which SES environment the exam uses
    • Faculty: optional faculty grouping
    • Browser configuration: the SEB settings template
    • Required seats: number of seats (remote app pre-warming)
  3. Configure the schedule:
    • Start / End date-time: when the exam window opens and closes
    • Strict time: students can only take the exam inside the window
    • Session cleanup delay: minutes after the exam before sessions close (default 30)
  4. Set the Owner and optionally Additional owners
  5. Click Save

Publishing

When you publish an exam:

  • The SEB configuration file (.seb) is auto-generated
  • browserConfigKey and examKeySalt are stored on the exam
  • An 8-character access code is generated (e.g. AB12CD34)
Built-in exams need questions

Before you can open a built-in SES exam to students, it needs questions. You can add them in either way:

  • Manually — create questions by hand in the Exam Assembly page; or
  • AI generation — generate questions with the configured LLM (see LLM configuration) and then review/edit them.

Once you are happy with the set, freeze the questions (lock them against changes and regeneration) before publishing.

Where access codes live

The access code is what students enter on the exam-entry page. Share it with students before the exam starts.
